St. Marks, Offshore and Inshore - from Eddie Joe

Post by EddieJoe »

I normally fish outta Lanark, but was concerned about the wind (of course, it was nice all day, but no harm done), so buddy Al and I went to St. Marks. Found the seas light, wind out of the East about 5k, so we headed offshore to a spot about 15 miles S of the sea buoy. Trolled there for a while, nothing but a short, so we anchored. The 30' deep water was near gin clear, and we could see the rocks below and fish hitting our bait. Caught 4 nice gags to 28", and two red grouper at 24". Slow bite on alewives, but we did O.K. I felt fortunate to catch any grouper with the water so clear and the tide so light.
Came back to the bird rack, and trolled spoons. Caught 11 macks, 6 of them were around 5 lbs, really nice fish. A lot of boats around the bird rack, catching scattered macks.

Came in around 1. Beautiful day. Dead tired. Don't like fishing on Sunday and going to work on Monday, but we had a good time.
