Pronounce "Le-a" ???

Post by Flanders »

How would you pronounce this child's name?
She spells her name "Le-a"
So how would YOU pronounce her name?
Leah? .....................NO.
Lee - A? ................. NOPE.
Lay - a? ............. NOT A CHANCE.
Lei?..........NICE TRY, BUT GUESS AGAIN!

This child attends a school in Livingston Parish, LA.
Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her child's name wrong.
She says it's pronounced "Ledasha."
When the Mother was asked how in the world she figured
it should be pronounced that way, she said,
"Cause the dash don't be silent!"
So, if you see a name come across your desk like this,
please remember to pronounce the dash.
And if anyone axes you why, tell them it's 'cause the dash don't be silent!

My wife had a kid in her class a couple of years ago that was the opposite, the dash was silent.

Man, that's waaay too confusing. I think they should have different symbols for silent dashes and dashes that "don't be silent". Is that too much to axe?

No lie lighterknot, my brother-in-law(teacher) had Shithead in his kindergarden class. On the first day of class when he went to call roll he had to call out the last name and ask him how to pronounce his first name. Sha-thead

Never met Sha-thead, but must bear a close resemblance to me and my Marine brethren, as during boot camp we were often called Sha-thead by our DIs.

Several years ago there were twins born at a local hospital. The parents named them Orangejello and Lemonjello.....pronounced
Or- range'-jello and Le-mon'-jello.
