I wish I could tell the naysayers that this is truly a 40" fish, but I have no idea since I didn't take the picture, and its third had information.

However, below is a 29" trout that I caught and measured, and it looks it looks a lot smaller to me.

Put me in the skeptic list... and not because it doesn't appear 40" or that I suspect it's seen some photoshop work (thought it may well have)... I'm skeptical because it very likely would be a Florida record and it's kind of hard to believe a new record wouldn't be getting more detailed press. Here's info on the currently listed record, and you'll note it falls in just under 40".

Also could this photo be from TX? There are several articles about giant fish found floating after freezes - also saw this---

"There are reports and pictures to verify a 48-inch, 25-pound trout found floating during fish-killing freezes in the 1960s. " :o

Sorry, Redfin, just had my first cup of java and actually woke up! :-D Still skeptical it's a FL fish ;-)

I had a buddy that caught a 36 inch trout in Pensacola. I know for a fact that it was legit, and he has pictures. I'll try to get him to post them. As for the 40 incher being the world or state record, didn't he say he found it floating dead? Wouldn't that automatically disqaulify it? The photo doesn't look tampered to me. I have no reason to disbelieve.

IGFA does not have a world record category for fish found dead and floating so maybe thats why theres not much said about it.

World Record 17 lb trout was caught in FLA. Not TX. And on a Super Spook. Nice!
