Offshore Lanark 10/29

Post by ufgator2 »

Same result, grouper are either not there or still not interested in eating live or cut bait. The endangered red snapper are so thick it pizzes me off, we could have caught 100, all legal. Bait is getting harder and harder to find, looks like cut bait time...

A little at the end, should have started out w/ trolling, but i was dialed in to going out near O, some number i have were holding some BIG grouper. We couldn't catch any hard tails big enough to keep the snapper from eating them, bait is getting tough

Haven't posted here in a while. Are there two of you, Frank? Scarey thought.

I think we are right in the middle of the change. If bait is getting scarce, then good trolling may happen in a week or two. I hope that red snapper won't hit a stretch.

No EJ, only one of me, so you can rest easy.

Same result today, rough as a cob, lots of shorties and the very rare and elusive AJ's. Did not catch a keeper grouper, but didn't fish that long, and only in 40'. Drug the stretch 30's for a bit in 35-40', donated one to the king mackerel collection, but no grouper.

Whew! Probably a relief to many to verify there is only one but when I saw that "Gator2" I got scared.

You mean rare AJ or RS? The feds have made them both rare, to anglers, but they aren't rare at Southern seafood.

I didn't go, because family stuff came up and it looked too windy. All this week looks bad, too.

Luck,

AJ, we only fished in 40', RS evidently have moved back deeper. Evidently the recent front backed up on us, it was cold and blowing like a B word, fished around the Cbelle river for a bit (26" red in the box) and then put on our big boy underwear (or stupid underwear) and banged our way out to 40', and let me tell ya 25-20kt winds in a 19' Pathfinder is bumpy. Oh well, we caught a ton of shorts, rock bass, grunts, and AJ, and my friends were happy to go home w/ a bunch of rock bass and a redfish. Since i'm self (un)employed, i figure i could go broke fishing just as easily as working ;)

You went, anyway, which is more than I can say. You probably could have done pretty well inshore if you had stuck it out. I would think you are glad you didn't buy that big ole grouper boat you were considering a while back. Big ole boat for what? A couple of grouper, every now and then? Good you kept the PF, since the feds have eliminated the need for a bigger boat.

Yeah, i would not be happy feeding a 22' GW fuel to go catch shorts and trash fish. Let us catch 4 snaps each year round, they're so thick i hope they don't sprout legs, be an invasion, they might march ashore and eat every cat, dog, and small people they can catch :-D Heck i might have to go buy some inshore rigs and start chasing something other than grouper and such

We did, one time, with Tidedancer, on his boat. It was a good trip, actually. Gator caught some catfish, but we gave him a grouper to take home.
