Duke. You got a nice start with the thread. That is a good winter project...a BIGGGG.. winter project. Good luck with it.
Maybe you could put an abbreviated version here, if you got time. Just sayin'.
I agree with you, Iboats.com is a great site, if you do your own maintenance or just like to tinker with your toys. Great place to shop for motor parts and such.

Thanks man. It's going to be a lot of work, but by the end, I'll have a "new" boat (except for the engine). That's next!

I'm ready to start pulling the cap off now, but I'm waiting/trying to find a warehouse or garage where I can do a lot of the work. I can do what I need in a month, but would rather have 2 months. Problem I'm running into is finding a place that will do a short-term lease! I need at a minimum of 1,000 square feet, power and water, ENCLOSED space to work with.

I might have a free warehouse but it's in Stone Mountain, GA... About an hour from home, so that's a lot of driving and hours away from home.

I'll be putting my big order in for fiberglass and paint materials next week, so hopefully by next weekend, I'll have found a place to do what I need! Cross your fingers for me!!!

Dukes, what I know about boats (and most other things) you could write on your thumbnail, but that looks like a very serious project you have committed to with your boat and you have my admiration.
I look forward to following the progress.

I did see another fine example of your good wife's business enterprise, on a recent trip to Cyprus.
You may not have seen the pics on FS, so I will post it here.

Cran, I saw that picture and printed it. When Meli got home that day, I asked her why she had not told me about her property in Cyprus.

I'm really excited about my boat project. There are some incredible DIY boat projects on that forum and I've been reading them for over a year. I feel pretty comfortable with the undertaking of such a large-scale project. It will be great fun and when it's all "said and done", I'll know my boat from the inside-out; literally and will feel even more confident in it's ability to handle whatever the Gulf of Mexico can throw at it (which is more than I WILL HANDLE, I'm sure)!

Thanks!

DukesFin,
What happened to the Grady? Did you sell it and move on to the Cabo?

Why are you using paint vice gel coat? Fixing gelcoat is much easier than paint - in the long run.

You will need a water trap for the compressor and a long hose....air is hot and it will condense and ruin the paint.

Might want to look at Bateau2 - they have a wealth of knowledge on that site....S3 paint is a good paint if you want to got that route - its water based.

Oh, the Grady has been gone for a couple of years now. I sold the Grady and bought a motorcycle. Used it for a year, then sold it and got the CABO.

I like the cost/look and application of Interlux Perfection as well as the choices of colors. The spray set up I'm going to get is going to be a pressure pot (Binks) system with the condensation/oil handling system.

I like the 2-part paints as well. Anything can be laid over it if one chooses to do so later on. The one part paints don't take gel or 2-part paints without having to strip it off first.

I thought I felt my ears burning! lol
Short and sweet. I'd like to say I never made enemies on the internet. Now I'll say "other than rick". I know we had a few misunderstandings but I never knew you held so much animosity towards me. Hell, even after you left and the panhandlers were raking you across the coals I defended you and your moderating. As far as the Bash issue, that was no secret. I went as far as posting a sticky in the Panhandle inviting those guys and asking anyone who wanted to come to vote, with a link to the poll in the NW. Still I hold no hard feeling towards Rick, even though he dislikes me, and most of the other moderators. Water under the bridge.

Dukes, that one does bother me. You and I have talked one on one a couple of times. You've always said you "had no issue with me, it was the others", then I drop by and see this. I would have never expected it, but there again, it is what it is. Sorry I have wronged you in some way.

The FS forum is a shadow of what it once was, theres no arguing that. The management dropped the ball on the whole transition. All I can do is stay on for the ride, or pack up and leave. well, I don't guess I'd be leaving, whether I was a mod, or a member, so I'll stay. I think there are some changes coming soon, I hope they improve the product.

In the end it's just the internet. Thank the Lord it isn't real life.

P.S. I still don't like what his president is saying.

Listen, I have no issue with you supporting Obama, and would never moderate you for it. I voted for Reagan, both bushes, and Mccain. Which one of "my" presidents are you talking about?

Dang Mullet, don't be bringing all of that over here. It's peaceful here and we likes it that way.

Nice C.Y.A. Billy, You're wrong, I don't have any dislike for most of the FS moderators or anyone else there...just those who abused their positions..or constantly lied and tried to stir the pot in the Panhandle... (if the shoe fits) I still converse with a few of the mods via email and consider them as friends.. and as for being bashed when I left that place, that was only by the select few trouble makers and was expected.. It was both the admins and the moderators that killed that place and still are... BOTH are management... It's really a shame because it was once a great forum. Leaving was the best decision I've made in a long time..It's history..and as you said....water under the bridge.
