File Cabinets

Post by big bend gyrene »

Due to continued growth our office recently had to seek more filing space for patient charts. With many medical offices going to electronic medical records, I suspected I might be able to find an office looking to sell their cabinets and I was correct.

Our office needed approximately 9' floor length of cabinets and I found an office at Capital Regional hospital that was willing to beat the price I could buy new cabinets, but with the caveat I take 90' floor length worth of cabinets to help them clean out space they needed.

The cabinets are in VERY good shape and the hospital paid approximately $8,000 for them. I have built every bit of what I can out of the inventory and am now looking for a good home for the remainder. I could discard the rest, but it seems sinful as it is in such good shape (near new condition). Tools are not even required to put it together, as the frames have predrilled holes that the file drawers hook into. The cabinets are designed to be used for front and back side filing, but are also designed so that the frames can easily be separated and used for single sided filing if desired. The frames also allow for either hooking a single set of shelves from, making a single module about three feet wide, or daisy chaining them together to make as long of a row of cabinets as desired. With the inventory I have left someone could have build a single sided file system as long as 36' long x 7' high OR have 72' filing cabinet lengthy x 7' high if hanging file shelves front & back... we're talking a ton of filing cabinets.

Here are photos of a single side I built for use holding our forms.

And here's a pic of a double sided module I built to hold our charts... (the island module that isn't yet filled with charts...)

Cabinets are about 7' tall and can hold as many as seven shelves. The shelves have slots about every inch for divider plates and I have a pile of them too.

If anybody can put these to good use, let me know. Would love to collect a little pocket change for the transaction but won't take much due to having used all that I can at our office. Truly a chance for someone to get about $6,000 to $7,000 worth of filing cabinets in near new condition for pennies on the original dollar costs.

Shoot me a PM if you wish to see them. We have several other medical offices looking to take some, but be happy to share with any BBF members if you can put them to good use!
