Party-goers Remember - Jackson Cove Road Ends at the Ramp

Post by Harmsway »

Funny story (now) - sitting on the deck of Shuckers (Oyster Shack back then) at Lake Jackson one night when I noticed that the car coming down the road was not slowing down as it approached. I, and several others, watched in shock and horror as the car sailed right on through the boat ramp, skipped on the water a couple of times, and sank within seconds right in front of us. God bless the two young men who jumped in without hesitation to rescue. No need though, the 17-year-old driver and his date both soon popped to the surface on their own without injury. The driver explained that the young couple was looking for a dark place to park, and did not know that Jackson Cove Road (Lake Drive back then) ended at the boat ramp.

Ahh, young love . . . :smt007

If her head had not been in his lap they both might have seen the end of the road.

I had to survey a boat ramp in Sebring Florida once so the engineers could move it from being aligned with a 90 degree bend in a road. The senior citizens of South Fl. kept launching their cars by driving straight ahead down the ramp.

There is a boat ramp in Norfolk, VA that the elderly drive off into the water on a regular basis.
