Gulf County 12/14/09

Headed down the road for a rendezvous with Barhopr...plan was to chase some reds with the long pole. Fog was bad and it got worse and worser :o ...at one time you couldn't make out the horizon....almost sickening to look up from the gps and you can't make out the horizon. We fished here and there...saw a fish here and there...hooked a trout - lost a trout....saw a red...casted at a red. This was the pattern for the day....did manage to catch one nice trout on the fly...had a few reds chase the fly, but no love. Probably the most difficult day to sight cast....slight chop, overcast and fog...but we had a few shots.

Nice day on the water with Barhopr - meet up with Baygator for a cool cerveza...surely beat the hell outta working.

Y'all found a few more than I did at Lanark, Chalk. That fog gave new meaning to the phrase pea soup, didn't it? Not bad for the buggy whip, tho.

Water at Lanark was the color of rust, so much tannin stain. Temps between 60 and 61. Tried to spoon feed one red with no love. Released another 25-incher fooled by a white Exude RT slug. No other players to be found. Trout must be headed for Cancun, there's so much fresh water.

We almost went to Lanark, but decided not to make the drive. Didn't see much mullet, so I wonder if that is why the fish were scarce.

I appreciate the bow time buddy. I haven't had a lot of time on the salt lately so it was very welcome. Given that we had the water visability that was about the same as if we had been floundering at nigh under lights, Id say we did OK just by seeing the ones we did.

I was out on my kayak during some of that fog on Sunday. Talk about feeling all alone in the world....... SPOOKY :o

I didn't catch anything either, I figured it was because the sun never came out to warm up the shallow water. Pelicans were diving all around me, they had to be eating something! How they could see well enough to fish in that fog is beyond me! 200 ft visibility max!

I was out of Econfina on Monday, and the fog was pretty rough. We tried the mouths of some creeks and picked up a few. I'm wondering if all the fresh water has moved the trout back to the flats or were we just fishing the wrong plugs? I'm still learning to fish down here, so any help would be appreciated.

did you gents run up the ditch at all? Not the best sight casting, but atleast you can see shore :D

We've, Katie especially, had some nice days up there.
