Trim/tilt

I have a 1999 50hp Johnson with hydraulic trim/tilt. It goes up fine, but when it comes down it makes a clicking sound. I'm guessing it could use more hydraulic fluid, but I'm not sure which screw to undo to check. There is a small on on the lower port side, a larger one to the right of it and then one above them both. Any clues as to what is causing the sound and which screw to check?

THE TILT AND TRIM ON MY BOAT IS THE SCREW ON TOP OF THE CYLINDER. BE SURE TO PUT THE ENGINE ALLTHE WAY DOWN THEN REMOVE THE SCREW AND FILL TO THE TOP, IT TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO FILL SO BE PATIENT, IT WILL ONLY TAKE A SMALL AMOUNT OF FLUID AT A TIME.

BE SURE TO PUT THE ENGINE ALLTHE WAY DOWN

If the engine is raised, you will overfill it and blow the seals when you lower it back down all the way down and full is as much fluid as it can handle

The fluid level is fine, but it still makes a loud clicking sound when I put it down. I've lube everything imaginable, so my next question is what could be causing it?

You have three pivots plus the streering tube that can "stick" if not greased well. If it is a true "clicking" noise, it could be the relay going bad

It could be the tilt tube. The grease fittings on the tilt tube don't do a lot of good. I've had to remove the tilt tube, clean and lubricate it, and put it back to get it to stop sticking on older motors.
