Keaton Beach 19 Dec 09

Post by chugbug »

Headed to despite the negative tide and NW wind. There wasn't much water but we didn't need much either. We got out of the channel without a hitch and head South. Lady at the bait shop said go North but I didn't know that until my buddy told me on the way in. We fished between the bird rack and the point. We ended up with 7 trout. One under 18 inches and one at 23. First three were caught on a Bite-A-Bait black and chrome suspending jerk bait. Caught a couple on a CT rig with new penny gulp shrimp and the rest were caught on a assasin electric chicken swimbait. I prefer the Strike King Glass Minnow version, same color but I left mine at work and NO ONE carries them on my path to the gulf. So. That's my story and I'm sticken to it. I don't know the water temp or depth we were fishing as none of that worked for me. I will say the dirty water produced more fish and it is dirtier North of the channel.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like you did well. There's a little drop south of the south bird rack that would have pretty good depth on a low tide. Surprised you found some stained water south, it's usually pretty clear this time of year.

The stained water went out with the tide. It was gin clear when we left.
