NFGFC Econfina 4/3

Post by tin can »

We arrived at Econfina yesterday morning to find a VERY LOW TIDE. After a quick meeting, we pushed the start and weighin times back an hour. Eventually everyone made it out of the river and went fishin.

Yesterday's tournament was a bit different format. After everyone got there, we put all the non boater names in a cup, and the boaters drew for partners. This was an oppertunity to fish with someone you might not normally fish with. I was fortunate enough to draw Sea Gurl. We loaded her stuff in the Tin Can, and off we went.

With the low tide, the bite was near non existant until 11:00. Very few folks indicated they caught fish before then. Then the wind kicked up big time about 1:00. Everyone had a rough ride in. I don't think I saw anyone that wasn't wet.

Ty and Jumptrout51 won the tournament with 12 pounds of trout. Sea Gurl and I finished second with 11 pounds. Tide Dancer and Ledsled finished third with 10 pounds.

After the weighin, we cooked a few fish, and enjoyed the afternoon.

Everyone caught fish, and had a good time. Everyone also indicated they liked the draw format, and would be interested in doing a draw again.

Sea Gurl, I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Clad ya decided to participate. I ust wish you had put your money in the big fish pot.
What was I supposed to do today?

I too had a great time at the tounament

It was great to fish with some new folks and to get to know them better

I did not bring my boat so I could "go into the hat" and I am glad that I did

I think we will keep this format for at least one tourney a year in the future

For those of you who are not participating in the NFGFC fishing events, all i can say is that you are missing out on some great times with some great folks

I had a good time also. I have known Ty for over 7 years and have fished against him, around him and near him but never with him. He is a great guy and a excellent fisherman. He shared a fishing technique with me that will be invaluable to me in the future, hopefully allowing me to catch bigger and better fish.
Thanks Ty and thanks NFGFC.

Dito on all of the above. :-D
This was my first tournament with the NFGFC and a chance to meet a lot of the folks I have been chating with on the web. I had met TK and Atticus while fishing out of the moorings before April 3rd so most of these people were strange eerrr I mean strangers to me. ;-) They all made me feel welcome as a newbie and helped with lots of info on where to fish and what to use. But that was at the fish fry :-?

The Eonafina creek, I mean river was just about a creek Saturday morning and Leadsled and I were the last boat to get out to fish. I think that Leadsled was beginning to think he had a bad draw for the day and was getting a little nervous. Well we finally got out of the river about 10:30 and put 2 keepers in the boat within the first five minutes. So we said hey this ain't so bad. Well those two fish were lost and they were all we had for a while. The cooler weather had really worked on the bite we had last weekend.

We moved from shallow to deep from deep to shallow, this bottom and that bottom until we put our Bass thinking caps on and tried to surmise where these closed mouth trout should be.
Well we finally found what we thought was the pattern to the fising for that day and stayed with it.

Thanks Leadsled for a great day on the pond. I hope to fish with you again.

Thanks to all the club members at the Econfina tournament. You did make me feel welcome. You folks have a first rate club.

I'd like to thank all those involved in putting together the fishing tournament. It was a great opportunity to meet and fish with new folks. It's been a real long time since I've fished in someone elses boat and what an enjoyable day it was - even getting wet on the return wasn't toooo bad (burr!).

Tin Can - you've got to show me that knot again. I don't have it quite right - I'm stuck at the loop 6 times spot - maybe you'll be at the next NFGFC meeting and can run it by me again. Glad we made a respectable showing at the weigh in!

Thanks to all involved for making it such a special day.
