fishing gloves

Post by Sir reel »

I had someone at work ask me about cold weather fishing gloves. I don't really have a good answer so I decided to ask for recommendations/suggestions. I have a pair of gloves that I've used for duck hunting and they are "somewhat" water proof. They would need to be as thin as possible, water proof, and warm all at the same time. What say ye ??

Neoprene gloves for duck hunting comes to mind.

I have seen some folks use golf gloves covered with the latex gloves the doc's use.

I am not aware of anything thin enough to feel good fishing with and warm enough to realy add value. That being said, it does not get that cold down there. I wonder if some of the rubberized gardening gloves would work. I know that when i hunt, I where a super thin glove and, if it is real cold, keep the chemical hand warmers in my pockets. Latex would at least keep the wind and water off, but the medical procedure gloves really are not that tough. Now, if you could get surgical gloves... What about a thin dish washing glove with a cotton liner? Man, the more I think about this, the more I like hand warmers.

KY, I drive past some flooded timbers on my way to work and they were covered by a layer of ice today. Not as cold as what I'm expecting to see in OH this weekend, but cold enough to numb fingers. I don't remember ever seeing standing water frozen in FL before.

SR, I can't fish in gloves. If it is that cold I should be hunting instead. However, if I were going to try gloves I would try the type with fingers exposed.

AW HECK...don't feel bad. We got members who can't fish whether they're wear'n gloves or not :-D I've lived in Florida since 1967 and a lot of that was in Central Fla. working construction (running heavy equipt) while the Mouse house was being built. I've seen standing water frozen well enough to support someone standing on it. I was born and raised in the Mid West and I've seen 13 below zero ... but I never owned a pair of long underware until I moved to Florida. There's just something about the cold here that makes you feel it more (imo). I don't know if it was 2 or 3 years ago at the Keaton Beach tournament...but if you were there, you probably had a pair of gloves on. :D

Best solution I've found is a pair of wool Army surplus gloves. They're OD green and thin enough to allow dexterity yet warm when running or fishing. If they get wet, the wool will still retain body heat. I've had the latest pair for years. The Army Navy Surplus on North Monroe carries them, I believe.

I've seem them propane heaters that you and Butch use... I wouldn't need gloves either if I carried equipment like that! :smt005 I'd imagine that the water temp around your sea ark is at least 10 - 12 degrees warmer than anywhere else... draws the fish right to em in cold weather! 8)

My days of extreme fishing or extreme anything are gone, but if I were to venture out the water when temps were below 40 or so, I be looking for something like these. http://www.greatoutdoorsdepot.com/seals ... loves.html
They are a little pricey, though.

Best pair of cold weather hand gear are wool glomits. Cabelas part # 92-0107. Wool gloves with the fingers cut short and a mitten flap that covers the whole hand when you want. They are about 10 bucks and well worth the money. Most outfitters carry them. They are also great for hunting. Try it , you'll like it!
