SJB 1/22 & 1/23

Post by BayGator »

Got on the water Friday afternoon with very pleasant weather conditions, but stained dirty water all the way down town beach. Picked up my partner after a little scouting and we decided not to head south for redfish but hit the ditch instead in hopes of finding some trout. Struck out in the ICW and made the trip across to the state park for some shallow water hunting. Found mullet, sheepies, and even some bait but no luck otherwise. Decided to head south and check out the water conditions. Ran down at least a couple of hundred ducks on the ride back toward the fire tower. Got to my spot and found nice clean water with the wind blowing a perfect drift into an area know as the "play pen". My partner knocks down a fat over slot fish in the first ten minutes of fishing on a gold spoon and we thought the day might turn in our favor. I miss two more fish with rookie-like bream jerking technique :hammer: , and we end the day with only the one fish.

Fished Saturday out of Presnell's in terrible conditions with the wind blowing SE at 25+ mph. The same water that was clear just a little over 12 hours earlier had become stained with almost no visibility. We managed to hook a 26" red in the first few minutes of fishing but then went on a two hour drought and decided to call it a day. It was good to get the Yellowfin back in the water and knock the cobwebs off!

I like that area. Is Presnell's still charging $10.00 to launch?

OD, the charge to launch now is only $6 and it goes up the closer scallop season gets here.

Their launch fee schedule sucks. Last time I was there I had backed down and was ready to go when my fishing partner reported the $10.00 fee. They can forget about me launching there ever again. It just makes more sense to launch across from the Booger King for nothing. It makes for a little longer run but it starts my day off better.

I hear what your sayin OD, and during the crazy tourist season I never use Presnells. But this time of year it just gets me to my fishing holes faster and there is hardly ever another boat out there.

And SilverKing don't get me started on Booger King. :) Some of you might have children that work there, and I'm sorry, but we were taking a hard look at the folks working behind the counter not long ago, and they were pretty rough, and no plastic gloves when they were handling the food. I wrote corporate and they sad they had no intention of requiring the use of gloves. I should have written back they might reconsider if they toured the BK's in Apalach., and PSJ.

I buy the yearly pass to the state park at Cape San Blas. It costs around 80 bones, but I launch well over 30 times a year, so it's worth it, compared to 7.00 a day. I put in across from the BK Lounge if its blowing over 20 knots from the northeast though. I have seen some sketchy cats working at the BK, one time an employee there had a foot long string of blood on his arm and was just talking to me like nothing was up. I'm too fat to eat whoppers anyways.
