Guys,
This is something that just quirked me. About a week ago I was driving on I-10, westbound, and just crossed over the Alabama/Mississippi State line into Mississippi. It was about 7:30 AM and, as always, a Mississippi State cop is sitting in the median area. I was traveling maybe 71 or 72 in a 70 MPH zone and he pulls up behind me on my left side which he stays there for about 10-15 seconds. Anyway, blue light comes on behind me and he pulls me over. While I'm pulled over, he walks over to my passenger side window. I already have my glovebox open and my drivers license, concealed weapons license, registration and insurance in hand before he gets there. I say good morning officer and he asks to see the items that I have in hand. He asks where I am I going. I tell him and he reviews my items. While he is looking at the items, I say to him "may I ask you why I was pulled over?". He says "sure, please step to the rear of the vehicle". Once there he points to my tag and says, "see that dealer advertising bracket?, well it's covering the county that you are from". "That is not allowed here in Mississippi." I say, sir, I'll take care of that. Also he said that I was driving over the central line. He asked me if I was falling asleep because I did not look drunk. Guys, I was working on my third cup of coffee and was NOT driving over the centerline. He said, take care and have a nice day.
I stopped at the next rest rest stop and took care of the dealer ad bracket. While driving along I noticed that about half of the vehicles had those brackets on them. In closing, I just want to say be careful on I-10 through Mississippi. In my opinion it was a BS stop and that cop had no reason to pull me over. Obviously he was fishing for something.

I want to say I remember back in the 90's when the Mississippi State police got into so much trouble for pulling out of state cars over for no reason. They were confiscating travel money saying it was drug money.
I drive through there pretty often and luckily haven't ran into any trouble. They are definitely looking out for speeders coming in from AL. That is a bad section of interstate because that is just about where the Mobile traffic thins enough you can really open her up.
Maybe next time your luck will be better.

Never make eye-contact with a sitting trooper.

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

The tag bracket law is the same here in Florida. You can't have any part of your plate obscured from view. It isn't something that is enforced very regularly, but it is a law.

Same in Ga. just not enforced much, now a tag light out will get you pulled over.
