2/20 and 2/21...almost spring

Post by SHOWBOAT »

Saturday Matt met me at my place a little after 6. We headed for the coast in search of trout. The first bar produced a heavy 18" fish, then we went a couple hours with little to show. We ran about 7 miles in search of cleaner water and found some. Shortly after we sat the boat down I hooked a just over slot fish and followed it with a 25" fish. We had a couple more bites on jerk baits just as tided started to move. Sorry my photographer isn't a little more refined, no idea how that guy "point and shoots" ducks when they're haulling azzz.

With time starting to fade, we decided to hit one creek for some dinner. The nearest creek was one that we had never explored before, but it presents an ideal setting. Easy to access at low tide, tons of structure and redfish stacked up. We managed a dozen or more reds, all 22-26", and missed several more. Aqua Deam lures were the ticket. Thanks Capt. Mike!

These guys made for a nice fish fry and we had some friends over to watch the US beat Canada.

Needless to say we got home a little late after finding the reds so we took saltwater off the calendar for Sunday. We did go chase from freshwater fish for an hour or two though. Had some nice hook-ups and the fish were fat. Those SGO hats really keep the sun off your face.

A great weekend with fabulous weather. Both days the water was like glass. I can't wait to go back to our newly discovered territory when the top water bite picks up in a couple weeks.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.

Great couple days Brian and a stud trout. Sure makes me jealous that I couldn't fish this weekend! Does this make Team Showboat an early favorite for the March tourney??? I wonder if CairoTrout or BB will be posting any predictions...

Nice dude, I went on a solo run yesterday and slayed some big trout too, on topwater. Don't it make you wish it were 2 weeks from now and you were in a tourney. I love this time of year for trout.

What were the redfish eating? I got into a school of nice looking tailing reds along the grassline, got one bite on a Gulp, but no takers. I was throwing Gulps, jerk shads, and topwaters until an airboat spooked them. I've never not been able to get a school of redfish to hit a lure before..............

Good Job! Nice looking fish man!

Oh, by the way, had Matt just seen a ghost, or has he not been getting out much lately? That is some kind of white. :o

we may have to take you along for some local knowledge at the KB tourney :D
These reds were hitting spoons provided by our sponsor, but I was really wishing I had the long rod. They were laid up in every hole for the better part of a mile, and even I have can make a decent cast if presented enough short range opportunities.

JT, this may have been one of your holes. There was a couple submerged crab pots that looked great for "storing fish" as well as a couple sumbmerged Beast Lites. Sound familiar?
