Outboard question...

Post by REBELYELLGA »

Long story.....short...i took the engine cover off of a Yamaha 200 hpdi motor that has been sitting up a few years. It was full of dirt dobber nests and even the water pump tube was clogged. the nest were everywhere and crumbled all over when i tried to remove them. Heres my question..........if i use a hose with water or an air hose.....where is all this dirt ect going......??? It would appear.....it would be washed down in the foot or bottom of the motor. what is the best way to clean this engine? thanks very much...

If the dirt daubers are that bad the foot needs removing for cleaning and the water pump replaced. Fuel filter needs replacing as well as foot lubricant.

I'd take it to a pro. The flywheel need to come off as there is probably a nest or two under there also the air intake and lower unit at a minimum. We've seen dirt daubers take out a powerhead! :bang_1

I'd definitely drop the lower unit to make sure I can pump water through the powerhead. Don't think I'd bother taking the flywheel off. Spin it a few times with the starter anything under there will be dust in the wind.
