Alaegator and myself left the ramp at 7:00 am and made the run east. Not many boats on the water at that time of day. Had some shrimp and we caught some pin fish early to drift behind the boat as per instructions from you guys . Not much action early the water was smooth as glass and not much movement. We started in 4 ft of water, moved to 2 + and back out to over 5 because we were not finding any fish anywhere. By this time there must have been a hundred boats in the area and most were further out than we were. Picked up a fish here and there on the shrimp but nothing great on the bite. Couple of shark moved on the pin fish and Alaegator caught one. About 11:30 moved back in to 3 1/2 ft and found the bite. Over the next 3 hours caught about 45 fish . The color of the day was candy corn assassins under the C/T. Alaegator did catch some fish with the shrimp but the assassins seems to be the better bet. Had one big fish hook up on the pin fish but like all the fish that got away it was the biggest fish I ever saw . We think it was a Cobia but can't be sure. Totals for the day was 50 fish with 4 keepers between 15 and 19 inches.
Tod - I went out of Econfina on Saturday also. We were on the water by 7:30. We went north between the Aucilla and Econfina rivers and immediately were in the middle of a bite that lasted for the next hour or so. We probably caught 30 fish, but not one was over 14 inches. We were in 3.5 feet of water, 70 degrees and clear. Then they stopped and we moved all over the place for the next 3 to 4 hours and only caught a few. Then we went south near the bird racks and hit a bite again that lasted for about 45 minutes, but this time we caught (and later blackened!) 4 fish that were all 19 to 21 inches. In the middle of our second drift I had something big grab my grub. It almost ran the line off the reel (10lb test) and then pop! I thought the line had stapped but it was actually the snap swivel attached to the hook so we figured a big shark. Most fish were on green sparkle SA's under a Cajun Thunder. I also caught 2 keepers on a Topdog topwater, what a lot of fun.
