Any Ford Mechanics on here - 2006 5.4L need to change my plugs - what's the deal with the plugs breaking? Anyone been through this - heard some stories of $1200 to get your plugs changed on F150online

I have the same plugs on my truck. I've heard lots of horror stories. Thanfully I haven't had to change mine yet, Personally, I'd just let the mechanic at the dealer do it.

Maybe you could find the name of the engineer that came up with the design and write him a letter.

The design before blew out and now they won't come out. Gonna have the wife call them and ask...since it has been in the shop for a week getting a window fixed

Got a buddy that works for me with that same engine. Has always had problems with plugs and plug wires. Always costs him$$$$$$$ to have it fixed, piss poor design according to the mechanic that works on his.

It's cheaper ta just sell it and get ya a real truck "CHEVY" I have heard some folks say that it's cheaper and quicker to just replace the heads than try and get the plugs out

I know this is of no help but what the heck. My old mechanic used to say this everytime I took it in for a tuneup..."I swear a blind drunk man designed the Ford engine." I now own a Chevy.

I've owned Fords since 94 and haven't had any major problems. Currently have an 04 F150 with 115K miles and NO problems whatsoever. Been a great truck. The previous was a 99 F150 (all are 4WD) only problem with it was the AC went out at 120K miles, and before that a 94 Ranger that has 250K miles and is still going! I drive a Chevy 2500 LS company truck and it's the biggest POS I've ever had to drive! My wife has an 07 Tahoe that can't keep brake lights in it, and blows fuses like a $2 hooker! I was never a Chevy fan before the gubment took it over and now I will never own another! After 2 1/2 years with the current Tahoe the wife (who has had Tahoes or Suburbans for over 12 years) is ready for something else and will never buy another Chevy.

Have a mechanic do the tune up! I looked at mine, thinking of changing plus myself once, laughed and said that's a job for someone else.

Bay County Ford wants $400 to change the plugs and I have to sign a waiver stating if a plug breaks I understand that they can break one off in my ass with the final bill (could run up to $1200 to change $50 worth of plugs).
