Chalk, How many miles on that truck. I got the same motor with 76,000 and it's 06'. Just wondering how long they make it.

Depends on the truck....suppose to last to 100k...I have 58k and its been idling rough...started looking to plugs when I realized this. Read an article on F150online where a guy with around your same mileage changed his plugs himself....said the gap on some of the plugs was twice the spec...changed plugs and it ran and idled better.

JT you probably haven't changed the oil either have you

I have a little over 180k on my 1997 5.4 L. The plugs are a pain to change and while your at it you might as well change all of those coil packs too. Its $193 for an 8 pak of coils (One for each spark plug on the 5.4 L).

The plugs and coils have been a problem on these Ford engines going back about 10 years.

ETA- I drive a Ford and it has the coil problem. I like it however. The only issue is that I had to replace a couple coils a few years ago. And it rattles like a freight train full of metalic honey bees.

I had poor idling and changed my plugs last weekend, and it idles good now. The gaps were huge, maybe 2x the spec. That's a Tacoma with probably more than 150,000 miles since the last plug change, 328 K total. It might not stop next trip, but it's been running a long time.
