Costa Del Mar Blue vs. Green lense question

Post by BayGator »

I have had the blue lenses in my costas forever and I am needing a new pair. How do the green lenses work any better or worse from the blue lenses? I have heard that the green is better for sight fishing, but you can't wear them in low light conditions because they are too dark. I had a pair of 580 glass lenses with the amber color and hated them. Is it worth swapping out to green or stick with what I know?

For me its pretty simple.

Green - inshore fishing
Blue - offshore fishing.

There is not a lens that does it all. You will want an amber or vermillion for lower light. I think green is a good compromise.

Nothing but green for me...would like some vermilion for low light...but wear the green almost all day - sunny or cloudy

The green comes closer to doing it all, but the amber will be better in true low light conditions, but outside of shooting ducks at sunup, you really don't need the amber/yellow IMHO.

Tom said it best...Green for Inshore/Flats and Blue for Offshore/Deepwater!

I got two pairs of Costa's. One in the Silver Mirror and one in the Green Mirror. Both are great. I wear the silver everyday and use the greens for fishing. I used the silvers for fishing the first year until I got the green. They are great in any light condition but the green can't be beat when the sun is out.

Just for an FYI-I got my second pair of sunglasses for free. My best friend's wife is an eye doctor in Bainbridge. She told me a little secret. Since I don't wear contacts or glasses my insurance would paid for my second pair. My insurance pays $250 towards any eye care. All you have to do is purchase them from your eye doctor.

Just make sure you get the 580's...totally worth the $$. Good luck.
