Supposed to meet up with CT at the cabin at 7am but he got detoured by the anticipation of checking that Saturday morning Gobbler one more time. As I sat on the porch at the cabin and listened to my own Toms booming in the distance, I began getting ansy about the trip of today. Heath and i finally leave around 730. Headed to Keaton ramp just to see if we can find some clean water. We get to the ramp and meet one of FWC's finest at the ramp. really nice guy. Always take a minute to speak to these guys and let them know how much you appreciate the job they do to ensure our safety and the integrity of the sport we love.
On the way we get in touch with Birddog and ask him if he is willing to make the trip solo to hop aboard for a few hours. He says he can meet us in about three hours so we decide to go try out the reds. not much love but fish everywhere. Very low tide, cold water. Same beat different drum. We fish on until BD gets to the ramp and he squeezes onto BB Too! with us. We ease out to a spot Ct and I had fished the week before and first drift, I hook up with 19.5" of smackdown! No pics on the water, Sorry. Several blowups and plug smashes later, Im back in action with a 19" fattie. Bd contributes soon after with a super charged 18.5" beauty. We drift for a while not wanting to fight the wind too much and end up missing a few more. Cold water sure messes up them trouts aim!! Add this spot to the tourney day roster and decide to move on. Scoot down the shoreline in some not so familiar to me water wide open with BD smilin llike the late great Earnhardt, slappin me on my back and swearin to me "Everythings gonna be fine!!!" I like running skinny but when scallop shells on the bottom are making a ripple in the wind, kind makes my sphincter muscles cramp! We ease by a few rocks and begin casting. Action not quite as good but i manage to land a fat 22.5" baby pig. Scoot around in some more really tight places fishing around several more blow ups and plug shakes but only keep four for the grease. Looks like trout tacos tonite!! Had a great time with two really good anglers. Cant wait to see how the April tourney turns out with the new and improved Team BB!!! Hopefully the weather will have its mind made up by then and everyone can have a great day!
And now for the infamous 150 qt yeti cooler shot.............................
