Spent a couple of days fishing out of Keaton with Breambuster and BB Jr. Started out the day Friday pretty well picking up a couple of quick trout in 2.5', first on a top water, second on a catch 2000 on the end of the falling tide. First topped 20 and the second was around 19. But the plan was to get a few pin fish and head to the reef to search for Sheepshead when the wind laid down a little. Well it laid down just enough for us to try. Spent the rest of the morning and the early afternoon searching with no luck. There were a few being caught, but couldn't get on em. When we got back in the tide was falling again. Did pretty well in the late afternoon in 3.5-4.5 picking up some good trout to put in the box. Saturday we had to go out deeper to produce a bite and we had our best luck on the rising tide. The morning (falling) was fairly slow. Progressively made our way out to 6.5' where BB Jr put a hurtin on em with SWA's. Eventually the floatilla surounded us to the point where we couldn't get an uninterupted drift or go back to productive water. Seamed like all 100 boats wanted to be in the same spot. Had enough of getting cut off so we made our way to less crowed water (at least for 30 minutes or so until the possey got after us again). Were able to finish up there before 3 pm, making for an easy trip home. We had our best luck in the stained but not muddy water. Water temps are still chilly, ranged from 58 to 62. BB's got the picks, I'm sure he will add a few.

Thanks for the report. Was the flotilla north of Keaton? We woke up at 0430 today, looked at the radar, and went back to bed. At 1000 thought we might have made a mistake. But then came the wind. Oh well. I've driven 2 hours south too many times for less than ideal weather. With 3 kids and limited opportunities, I have to make the most of them, so next weekend might be better. I've got a half a mind to take another day off work this week, but at that rate I'll be out of vacation before the fall.

I must not be very smart. Should have followed BB and DDB.Hit-n-Miss wrote:Everybody knows Breambuster catches fish so they follow him. I bet more people harrass him than Pat Magrif.

Calvin and I had a great time as usual.
Dave's first hookup of the day on top water, and Calvin with the assist!
good way to start the day

a nice fish. This was supposed to be a bait stop.

What we brought back on Friday.

Most were nice fish

Like Dave said, we left the channel early on Saturday. Nice to be on the water before sun rise.

what a beautiful morning

Calvin's one of many nice fish caught on Saturday.

another nice fish

and another

and in between catching, he finds time to net Dave's fish.

nice netting

a good fish

Dave hooked up agin with a good fish, believe this one was on a plug

nice job netting again

a good fish

You would have been tired too with that much action in one day

The trout were not where we thought they would be on Saturday, out in deeper water. We spend good 2-3hr in 2-3' and didnt even get a nibble. Just shows that sometimes its worth to move around when the fishing is tough.
With that many boats on the water, its expected that someone will run in front of your drift, BUT this one takes the cake. He was no more than 50 yards from us. As you can see from the 1st picture, he was no more than 20 yards from one of our red cork on the water.
