The Tallahassee Bass Anglers had a club tournament today on the lake and will probably set a record catch for bass angler Brent Zapata. Brent blows away his competition with a five fish limit ...the biggest being a whopper fish weighing 12.31 pds. Adding to his catch were 4 more fish giving him a total weight of 30.98 lbs. for the win. His partner Don Gainey had 11lbs and something which gave these guys a grand total weight of about 42 lbs. of fish out of the same boat. Folks....this is HUGE news for a lake that has come back from a dry lake bed that many say ..."there are no fish in this lake"...or..."are there fish in this lake? All the fish caught today...were released back into the lake alive.
Congrats to the Tallahassee Bass Anglers and Brent for a fantastic day on the lake ...a day that will truly go into their record book. Pics by 1Nitrofish... buzz`in ding-a-lings outa "Oyster Island Bait and Tackle "
Think one of those is Tom Wheeler's released bass!

That lake has always been great for big bass, me and grandaddy caught big ones on live shiners and huge cane poles rigged with thick braided lines. Back in the 60's. Those are some real nice-uns! Congrats to the winners!
hhahahha....
when we were there 3 weeks ago we couldnt buy a bite.
nice fish!! makes me happy to see the lake returning to its former glory.
makes me sad to think how many people are going to be out there fiahing it now. lol.
I took a friend to Lake Jackson to "show him how to bassfish" back when I was a youth (76 now)
We fished like Dixie Rebel outlined...with lake caught shiners....big cane poles...and 100 lb. test lines....it was July...hot as blazes. About dinner time I had enough fishing on one side of the boat and I pulled up and let my rig down on the other side. My buddy did the same thing. His cork (we used jug stoppers) never slowed down. After the fight we boated a 12 lb. bass that was eying my shiner and when my friend put his down right in front of him...he bit. He went on to whip my hiney that day.
The Lake has gone down (went dry) several times since then....but it always comes back. Legend has it that it is connected to Ocklocknee River some way.
