Finally got the skunk off 3-27-10

Post by fishinfool »

Wow. I am glad to report I have proof positive that there are Spotted sea trout and Red drum in Apalachee bay.Or at least there were as of yesterday.
I started out from the light house ramp at dawn. I was met by 15 to 25 kt winds out of the north. This surprised me a bit as the reports said it was supposed to be 5-10 and diminishing in the afternoon. Well I hoped the diminishing part was still going to happen, so I set out for parts east. I was met by an awesome sunriseImage
You would think that after seeing the number of spectacular sunrises that I have over my 50+ years I would not be this impressed, but I continue to be, each and every time.
I found 4 feet of semi clear water about 1/2 mile south of grey Mare rock and pulled out a 15 and 1/32" Trout with a New penny Gulp shrimp under a CT around 8:30. It would be another 3 1/2 hours before I hooked up again. This time it was Mr. Red fish's turn. I was working a grass-line east of Palmetto Island in about 2' of water when an aggressive red picked up my spoon about 10 feet from the boat. When I set the hook Mr. Red made every effort possible to put as much distance between himself and my boat. Every time I got him within 10-15 feet of the boat he would take off again. This went on for about 5 or 6 minutes until I was finally able to wear down the 25" fish and net him into the boat.
Well it was only 2 keeper fish for an all day trip, but I consider it a success.
I was able to snap a couple of pics at the ramp before I cleaned the fish Image
So long to the skunk of 2010, hello to a productive season of flats fishing.

I believe your skunk swam to my boat. Went to St. Marks and hit the water around 9. Left at 1 with only one bite and no fish. Not a good way to start the season.
