Boat Rail Problems

Post by mojokoko »

On my 18ft Scout, the rail on the port side has come loose. The middle screw somehow popped out and I'm not sure how to get it back in place?
Anyone got any ideas?

There are some pictures of my boat.

Hmmm, Is it a machine screw? If it is, it probably had a nut and washer on the other end. You can reach it from under the gunwale cap. If the nut has fallen off I recommend replacing it with a stainless "Nylock" nut.
If it is a wood type screw you may have to re drill the hole or change to a bolt and nut as described earlier.
You might need an assistant to hold the nut as you turn the screw. In many applications the boat manufacturer has made it nearly impossible for the average human to reach both ends of a fastener.
