Had a perfect day of flyfishing lined up yesterday - until my padna bailed on me..something about making some money. Made some calls, no,no,no, maybe after lunch....called up Jim Penrod - master fly casting instructor. Bingo - flyfishing is a go. Met up with Jim at the ramp and we headed off in search of something - anything.
Unfortunately - I did not realize that the moon was going full until when I got up at 0430 this morning...I was like this is going to suck until after lunch - and it did. We saw sheephead and few small trout...but no reds until after the tide changed and I arrived where my secret informant had told me to go. Jim had some shots at some reds and I had a few sniffs..but the tide and time wasn't right yet.
Moved on down and saw a small fish and we where setting up on it and there was this large bronze log in the way

....ended up chasing bull reds around on the flats. Had several great shots and some eats...some hook ups...some broken line and poorly hooked fish. Was a sight to behold....I should be going back tomorrow...we fished on through the day and found some more reds, but no more takers on the fly...ended up getting a nice 30" red and called it a day.
Great day on the water with a great fly caster...too bad the fish weren't as cooperative.
This fish is 30" and the bulls were bigger - alot bigger
