Local Lodging
Hey guys. Gonna leave Aucila & Econfina area and try fishing new territory from St. Marks light house, however, not sure where I can find lodging around the area at 9:00-10:00 p.m. Any recommendations on where to look? Will be coming in from Capps/US-19. Assume there will be something up 363 toward Wakula to Tallahasse, or should I stay on 98 toward Panacea? Also where would I find a bait shop open in early A.M. Thanks, rcdclc
p.s. Don't have a clue on what time the park opens, assume it will open around 7:00 a.m.?

You might like to check out the Wakulla Lodge. I kind of liked it, my wife said she would never stay there again. It is different, two single beds, no tv, no telephone.
We have stayed at the Shell Island Fish Camp. It is pretty much a dump but it was OK if you just need a place to sleep.
Edit: I think the Wakulla Lodge books up pretty far ahead.

No, I don't build 'em for a living. I do have the perfect plot of pasture, live oaks, and a pond that would be good for Cabins, boat storage, etc. that is 13 miles from the fort. Would be a nice place for you guys in Georgia to stay on your way down. Thinking about moving some old shotgun shacks out there and fixin' them up for the next legislative session.
for petes sake
No decent accommodation at St Marks ?
I heard this place was good.

I would like to stay a few days in that area and this is a strong possibility.
Or does someone know different ?

Shell Island Fish Camp - around $50 a night
850-925-6226
Call ahead. They will unlock the room and turn on the A/C. You can settle up the next morning. I stay there quite a bit. Not fancy.
It is decently clean, TV, good A/C, hot showers and fairly comfortable beds. You can buy bait and launch there.
Riverside Cafe has good food. Posey's for Redneck Nightlife - if you dare. My kids enjoy Riverside. Sometimes they have live music - a guy and his guitar. Makes for a good laid-back weekend.
