Naviagation lights wire gauge size?

Wired all lights yesterday with 18 gauge wire, because that looked like that was on the original wiring. All wires are 18 gauge, including main positive and ground to battery. Wired direct to battery with inline fuse. Turned on lights, and not very bright, should I have used maybe 14 or 16 gauge instead? thanx.

18 gauge should be fine. IMOP
