Oyster Eating Trip with Boat

Post by MudDucker »

Put the batteries on charge Wednesday in the Ol' Pro planning a trip Saturday. Well, went Friday afternoon to crank and clean, but no joy. Ol' Pro at shop. Talked to son and told him I wanted to be on the water Saturday and I wanted to do it not too far from Roy Deal's. We discussed the plan and decided with the front, fishing might be tough, but we decided we didn't care if we caught fish or not.

Checked tides and decided with a 7am low tide that there was no reason to get up early. Woke about 6AM, went to farm, woke son, loaded up minimum equipment into duck boat and headed for Perry. Flipped mental coin and decided to go out of Yates Creek and top water fish. Got there around 10 AM and there was hardly any water in the creek. Had to push duck boat off of trailer by hand. Out the creek and I see flashes near one of the many bars that line the entrance to Yates. Set up drift and tied on top water. Nice trout swipes at my topwater and ends up hooking itself in the back. Trout in the box. Over the next several drifts, fish hit and miss son's topwater several times, but no joy. They acted real lethargic, not really busting the lures. Not even another swipe at my topwater bait. Water was stained, but not too bad. Didn't see the first redfish. Decided at 1PM we had done enough for the fishing part of the trip and it looked like more water in the creek. Now time for Roy Deal's.

Went through Perry and traffic was one laned on both sides of 19. At the intersection in front of Kentucky Fried Chicken there were 6 or 7 copper cars. Looked and there was an old man in cuffs in the street. In front of him was van with a natty light box on top. Checked to make sure it wasn't JT51. It wasn't, so I put my phone camera down and headed on to Roy's.

Get seated at Roy Deals and son says, now this is what I've been waiting on. We chowed down on great fresh raw oysters and fried oysters. He was right, it was worth waiting on. Back at the farm by 4PM. It don't get much better than that! :smt006
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Good report. Hard to catch that water right at Yates. Tricky even when it's up. Been fising there all my life and I still ding up a prop every now and then. One of my favorite spots.
One day move on down Hwy. 98 towards St. Marks from Deals a couple miles (just before Rocky's) and try Revells Seafood. I like it better. I buy all my bushels of oysters there. $19. for a half. The Revell family catch most of their seafood themselves so it's always fresh. :lick:
