After an adventurous morning which included one of my fishing partners sleeping through his alarm, was almost to the boat ramp when I heard the news...tournament cancelled. Nothing quite beats getting all your stuff ready and getting up early only to have the tournament cancelled the morning of (even when NOAA had been predicting this weather all week).
Met up with Jeff, Huey, and Chuck at the ramp and decided to go fishing despite the cancellation. Decided to go fish some new water that might be protected by the wind...it paid off (or at least it should've had there been a tourney). We caught trout to 26" and redfish to 26"...final Red-Trout stinger was right at 11.5 lbs. On the water at 7:30 and off by 11 a.m. Used 2 gallons of gas and total trip odometer was 6.7 miles.

Nice. That second fish looks like a slug! I've caught big trout with that same kind of skin scar/infection as that first one. What's up with that?
What do they do with the tournament when it gets cancelled? Do they change the date or just cancel it? Also, did they cancel the tournament at Keaton?

1.The trout with the scars come from fish traps.
2.The tournament will have a re-schedule date.
3.The Keaton tournament did not cancel.

I understand your thoughts completely. My dad flew in from OH on Friday and we rose at 4:45 Saturday. I checked the web for updates and headed to the coast ready for a tourney. Ran into JT at the gas station and he told me the tourney was cancelled. I hate cell phones, especially on weekends, and therefore my cell wasn't turned on. Not sure whether "Off the Chain" was pulling our chain, I turned it on and got the VM. We decided to fish anyway and within the first hour and half had a half dozen upper slot reds to 26.5. We left the water early without a good trout, but not having been to our prime trout holes.
Ended the day at Sucker's with a few dozen oysters, cold beer and good coversation.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.
