I agree with Gyrene, ending oil consumption is a last resort. We have to work towards alternative energy not just throw oil out in a day. I think that anyone who thinks this is the case has not thought things through. The day we run out of oil or quit pumping without a viable alternative energy solution is the day I fear and I think could be seen by some as a doomsday of sorts. If we did not have oil, how chaotic do you think just the simple task of getting food would be? Without mass production agriculture we have now. Not for me or probably you as we grew up with the know how and have the abilities to be self sustaining with growing our own food. There would be no hunting or fishing anymore. All game would be overhunted or over fished from the millions of people in the cities who had to move out to rural areas to find/grow food. I dont think that there is enough land to support subsistence farming for the population we have in the US now. There is nothing more heartless than a starving person, people would be in a current state of poverty and starvation leading them to commit crimes against their neighbor. You may say I have plenty of guns, so what. I do too, but the day I have to shoot someone for stealing out of my garden or trying to take food from me that will be a sad day. People would begin to be murdered for food instead of drugs. Lets not even go to the places like china or India where they are overpopulated now to sustain themselves. These people would have to go somewhere or starve, there governments would try to take from our government or vice versa and we all know what three letter word that leads to. Sorry to write a paragraph, just wanted to add my 1 and a half cents....

On May 3, 2010, Governor Charlie Crist extended a state of emergency declaration (Emergency Order 10-100) for the coastal counties of Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor, Dixie, Levy, Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota.
Many Thanks!

But I've heard the OBO admin talking points...."we've been on this since day one" and "...preparing for the worst case scenario"!
Should I still have any concerns whatever?

Associated Press being critical of Obama.....I know I'm pretty focused on the Gulf oil spill but did I miss the report on hell freezing over?
