should I stay or should I go ?

Post by lizbeth »

It's amazing what we take for granted, I have reservations at Ft. Pickens in Pensacola for May 25th to June 8th.
My dad and I built a double Kayak carrier out of light weight steel for the back of the 5th wheel camper it looks really nice, and now it may have all been for nothing. It makes me sad to think of all the oil that they say is going to be on our coast line.
If this where you would you cancel the reservations ? I realize that the fisherman that loose there way of living is much more important than my camping & fishing trip. :smt010 :smt010

I would call and find out what would be the latest date you could cancel without penalty and then call it or not based on the projected outlook from that date :smt004

A knowledgeable friend in Pensacola told me the plan is to set up booms in a wedge formation inside Pensacola Pass to collect oil as it comes in on the tide before skimming it off. Let's all hope it doesn't come to that.

Wevans had a good suggestion, but from Ft. Pickens there are lots of beautiful spots inside Santa Rosa Sound/GI National Seashore for kayaking, fishing that would still be do-able if the above scenario unfolds.

We're only beginning to see the large-scale ramifications of the spill and its impact on tourism, the environment and economy. I'm still optimistic they can dome over the well head or get the robots to shut off the blowout valve quickly before dealing with the residual oil.

I'm living a similar plight. Shell Island Fish Camp reserved for second week of June. Can't do anything but hope for the best and prepare for the worst. . . .

Gentlemen: I would advise that you contact the respective County emergency opertations center for the latest update on your respective fishing sites (escambia county for ft. pickens and wakulla county for shell island). The USCG is staffing a liaison person at each eoc to handle questions, etc. Hope this helps.

True that, sorry ladies. Just like one of my Wakulla neighbors to call me out on that. Long days over here in Mobile have drained what little brain cells I have.
