Boat wont fill with gas.. need immediate help!

Post by JT74 »

I need some advice. My brother is currently on the water sitting on empty trying to fill the boat up with gas. (he is over by Mashes Sands(sp?) trying to get back to shell point) He can only get 2.5 gallons in and the gas runs out the top and will not flow in. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the vent valve but I am at a loss. Any quick suggestion would be appreciated. Its a Key Largo 175.

Is the tank sub deck or above deck? Type of boat and size of tank? If sub deck is he positive that it is a fuel issue and not a motor issue?

Good questions. 2.5 gallons should be enough to get there indifferent of the fill-up issues. Sounds like out of fuel is not the issue.

To check the venting, you could just instruct him to put the gas in super-slow. It's a pain, but if poor venting is the issue he still should be able to fill at a very slow rate.

Nope; can't be a rod holder. Every rod holder I ever tried to fill up took every bit of gas I could give'er. :-?
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

Back in hike school I had a buddy fill up the speaker box in the back of HIS Jeep. Now that was funny. Unfortunately he was my ride to school. :smt005
