We started on a Trout flat that has produced some action for me in the past. There were a couple of hits and a lost keeper by me at the gunwale. After about two hours of rocking and rolling in what was supposed to be smooth waters with no fish in the box we head to my super secret, never fail, always produces, Red fish spot.
Well after what seemed like forever,I was able to guide Mom to this little guy.

There were no other bites, so we went to a new spot. I had never fished this area before and had wanted to for some time. The conditions were right for some exploration as the tide was rising. We were drifting past an almost hidden creek opening when we saw tails. A few casts of my spoon gained me this 19" battler.

Well it did not seem that we were going to see any more action from this spot. We fished it pretty thoroughly for another hour and were ready to move on when this bruiser inhaled my spoon and started heading towards the Aucilla at Mach one.

He wound up being right at 27 inches and packed full of fight. I am not sure how long it took to land him, but during the fight he turned the boat around twice. At one point I thought he was going to go into the grass, but was able to steer him into open water. I am not sure who was more excited, Mom or me. I had purchased a "Bass Lasso" landing net the day before, and Mom handled it like a pro. The monster was netted and we moved on.
Now, Mom does not consider it a successful trip unless she catches a Trout. I took her to one of JT's holes where she was able to land three or four shorts. She said she was satisfied that Trout were caught, even though they were dinks. I moved the boat to set up another drift. Mom may have been satisfied, but I was not. While drifting over an area of four to four and a half feet of water I commented that we should be getting a lot of Trout. It just looked too perfect. About that time Mom hollered, " Oh my Gosh". I turned around to see this 19" slob on the end of Mom's line.

It was after that fish we decided to call it a day.
It was a spectacular day. Mom was so happy she was nearly beside herself. She had landed 2 Reds a monster Trout and a couple pins an unlikely lady fish double. (one on the hook and the other gill tangled in her line) and some shorts. I caught a Cat, some pins, 3 Reds and some short Trout. We saw Porpoise in the shallows and a big Sea Turtle. All in all I don't think I could have ordered a better day for my Mother.
