Bleed them. Good video on you tube for cleaning a shark. About as easy as it gets, don't sweat it. Oh yeah, bleed them. Ice them quickly. One more thing. Bleed them.

My nephew soaked one overnight in lemonjuice. Grilled it with some pepper and salt. Wow was it good. The lemon gave it the right amount of zest. We had lots of other fish that day and the lemon soaked shark was tops with everyone.

I love this forum. It has been a great help to me in learning the art of saltwater fishing. Everybody has been very helpful but JT is always the greatest help of all. Seriously, i hope I get to meet him face to face as I find his since of humor similar to mine.

JT, let me appologize in advance. I will be at Ecky this weekend and I know I'll be in your holes if I'm catching anything!

I bleed mine, and gut them before throwing them on ice. Fillet them when you get home and let it soak a couple days in salt water or buttermilk some people like to use. It don't get much better for either grilling or frying. Shark is great!

We have eaten small sand sharks, blacktips, and bonnetheads and they all eat about the same. Only 2 allowed per boat, though.

Won't argue with claims that shark meat is tasty. I've eaten plenty myself in years past.

However, bear in mind sharks are very slow to mature to reproductive age so the bigger ones are the breeders. Sharks are also tightly regulated now and many species are off-limits. Know your shark ID beforehand to avoid trouble. Here's the link for more information:

Love it myself... one of my favorites when grilled. Don't eat it too regularly though because of mercury level concerns and when I do keep one I aim for smaller ones (less mercury accumulation), and right or wrong bonnetheads due to the fact they are bottom feeders (again, less likely to have high mercury levels) and easily identified (so not breaking law). :lick:
