Lanark / Carabelle Advise

Post by djw79 »

I'm going to give Lanark or either Carabelle a try on Saturday. I have never fished there before, but going to give some of the public numbers a try. Kinda new to offshore fishing so Im not sure which numbers are typically the best. I don't have a really large boat, so I'm not sure how far I'm going to venture out. I was thinking about trying out Dog Island reef, 3 mile reef, and two dogs reef, and possibly try out K Tower if the weather coorperates. What could I expect to run up on at the closer reefs. I was planning on trolling some stretch 25's to see if I could find a few. I'm just not familiar with that place at all and any advice I could get would be really appreciated.

Of the places you mentioned I've only been to Dog Island Reef. Not really a reef, more of a shoal in my opinion. It can be shallow in some places at low tide so keep an eye out. The water is usually clear and you can find trout, blues, spanish, maybe some cobia cruising around this time of year. With its close proximity to deeper water there really is no telling what might show up, I had a large tiger shark swim right up to the boat one day. Great place to fish jigs and such. If you put in at lanark i would recommend going right once you leave the boat ramp. You can get around lanark reef a lot quicker this way than going to the left and up by the marine lab. Good luck, the early afternoon feed time this weekend should make for some great fishing. :smt004
