Keaton 5/26
Went to Keaton by myself today, got there about 0840 thinking I would get the jump on some fish. Note to self-remeber to turn depthfinder off from checking it the previous night.
It was still on at ramp and battery died when trying to let the motor down.
Well, didn't know what to do but didn't want to go home after a 2 hr. ride just to get there. Thought about the marina and rode by there to see if they sold batteries. They do, which is good for dummies like me. New battery in by 9 am and on the water at 0930. Not too bad, I wasn't sure how long that battery had been in the boat and it probably needed changing anyway. First spot fishing only had dink trout and short sea bass. Moved around to several spots and caught the same stuff, no keepers.Got into small school of blues about 1030 and got one, another one cut off. Wind picked up about then, got rough. Tide high at 1 pm, caught a 20'' cobia and then a 19'' trout right about then. Encouraged, I kept moving around to different spots about 6 ft. deep with grassy bottom and got 3 more good keeper trout to 21'' . Then started catching shorts ranging from 13'' to 14.5'' . I couldn't get that 5th trout for my limit, but still very pleased with end results. 4 big trout and a keeper blue for the grill. Most fish caught on cork rig about 5 ft. deep with white gulp. Didnt get many on straight jigs. Quit at 4:15, tide falling fast. For a bad and slow start the day turned out all right. It was very windy today out of the northeast.

CS, I tried to catch some small pins on my ultralight rig but could only catch small seabass(fought like the devil on that light rig) and a catfish. It was so windy I had trouble throwing it out and getting it on the bottom. Got a bad birdnest in it and finally put it down, kept using the gulp under cork and did alright. But I do like to use small live pins, nothing better for big trout.

Some time the most satisfaction comes from fishing instead of catching. Good job.

Sounds like a good solo trip. For pinfish, try using a small bream hook and with a really small piece of gulp. For the trout size I would try in 3' or less.
