SATURDAY:
Woke up at 5:40 and was paddling out by 5:45. First cast of the day into a school of mullet yielded a 19.5" red on a Mirrodine. After a quick picture and release I couldn't find the school again so a paddled a hundred yards or so before finding a larger school. Third cast into it and I had a 24.25" Red on the Mirrodine. Lost the mullet again and couldn't find any more so I headed out a bit to see if there were any in the same area as last week.
Worked Exude RT Slugs and Darts for a bit before landing a ladyfish, shortly after boats started running though and I gave up on the spot. Drifting and casting a Dart at promising looking areas resulted in 6 reds chasing it to the Yak. It was a stupid move on my part, I had spotted a nice upper to over slot red 15 yards off the bow and ripped the Dart in as fast as I could with my eyes locked on him. I look off the the side just in time to see the group of reds close enough to touch... ***Sigh***.
Several casts later and I have a 25-26" red on and up to the kayak where he spits the Dart out; he was never hooked. Two casts later and I realize that I had some rocks in between myself and the Exude, reeling it in as fast as I can when an over slot red gets excited and gives chase. I almost make it across the rocks when he wins the race, after a minute fight with me doing everything I can to steer him out he breaks off.
After this the day really slows down, it might have had something to do with the boats that tried to cut through and rocked up... verdict is still out on that.

3 more times of being buzzed by air boats and I moved to a new area fishing just off the grass line. I scored an 18" 13 Spot red and called it quits when another air boat came through.
SUNDAY:
I woke up at 5:30 and was at in the water a 5:40 after a small miscue. Made my first cast into a school of mullet with a brand new Mirrodine at 5.43 and was hooked up in seconds. After a good fight, some jumping and a few runs under the kayak that spun me around like a rodeo bull I see a 24-26" Bluefish. As I grab for the leader me makes one more run and chews through the leader.
My next cast into the mullet school and I instantly had a 22" red on an Exude Dart. Most of the mullet moved out after this and with the stronger winds it was difficult to spot the bait let alone reds. The rest of my time out resulted in a few misses with lower slot trout and a missed red.
Later in the day I went out to net mullet for my dad. While wading in 14-18" I noticed a 7 1/2" Bull shark chasing rays on the other end of the bar and decided that I was not going to be pulling a cast net filled with struggling fish to me. On my way out and back in I saw 3 flounder between 12" and 16" and two other sharks a 3 1/2" hammer and one smaller (2'?) shark I did not get a good enough look at.
Just after/at Sunrise my dad took the boat out and just about ran over a 10-11' Bull shark near the Keaton Channel. He and my sister did a quick trip catching only a 3 1/2' Houndfish and a few misses on trout.
MONDAY:
***No Kayaking Happened Monday***
I woke up at 5:30 and decided that I was to tired and slept for another two hours or so planning on hitting Yates creek. Dad was wanting to see if we could find Cobia so I gave up on the reds. We pull up to marker 12 as I am getting ready to hook a crab and notice something big nosed up to the marker. A second later and I realized it was a 40-50# Goliath... Pitched the crab to him and after a few more attempts he swam off heading towards the Pier.
After hitting ever marker and only seeing sheepshead we found a 25+/- pound Cobia on marker 2 that would nose the crab and turn around.
All in all it was a good weekend despite some missed chances and being buzzed the whole time. The best part is today is already Tuesday... Only 4 more days till I get to go again!
