MORE ABOUT MARINES NEEDING A HAND

Many of you were at the NFGFC meeting when I spoke about a friend attached to a Marine battalion in Afganistan asking for help. The Corps provides the basics, but not the luxuries. These guys are all dog handlers with K-9s that sniff out IEDs. My friend Dan Miller was a Marine dog handler in Viet Nam, and now he’s back with his same unit teaching them how to detect and disarm the roadside devices. Dan goes on patrol every day, but as a non-combatant (he just turned 60, and I’m sure he’s packing), and sees first hand what is needed. Last week they had one KIA and two injured, and lost a dog. Below is a list of what the men can use, and their names. If you want to do more than just fly a flag made in China on Memorial Day, send some supplies, and a few words of encouragement, to the address below. A fishing trip when they get back would be nice too. The Post Office has a special rate for overseas and the large flat-rate box holds lots of stuff. Jerry Gerardi

For those of you who will send some of the requested items (and I will), I sent a few old issues of Gaff to a boot camp platoon mate when he was in Iraq, telling him to share them amongst the gyrenes under his supervision. He said they were quite well received. :-D  So if you have old copies sitting around, PROMISE they will be more appreciated by those in combat and far away from home than us enjoying the easy life now.

Hope they don't have more than one Marine in each Company with the same last name. No initials? I guess as long as someone in the Company gets it, It don't matter. Take my word for it. Even a letter or card is appreciated at mail call. Please do what you can.

Yeah, my mistake. Add Dan Miller to the address and it will get to the guys. Also read what I posted earlier about making a donation to the whole unit.
