SJB tourney

Post by SHOWBOAT »

I haven't seen many reports from the tourney so thought I would share. Katie and I stayed on CSB, so we got a little more sleep than some folks. Stopped by a gas station to pick up some ice Saturday morning and ran into Huck and Kathy who had been awake much longer than us. :-D

After some brief conversation we made our way to the ramp and put the boat in the water and had some coffee and a cigar waiting for others to show up. Upon Casey's declaration we hammered down to a place where I typically find reds before the boat traffic picks up. Once traffic pic ups, the reds disappear.

Saturday was no exception and we managed about a half dozen overslot reds and two in slot reds by about 9. Luckily one of the in slot fish had six spots and eventually took the red pot. Mullet were flying everywhere as far as the eye could see and any white or gold topwaters we threw were getting hammered.

Around 9 we started focusing on trout and found the bite tougher than I've experienced recently. corks, jerk baits and supsending lures all seemed ineffective. We were able to manage a 8.8# limit on topwaters but couldn't find an overslot fish that was necessary to be competitive.

We had a great time and cant' wait to see ya'll next tourney.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.

you followed me around long enough that you were bound to catch some fish. Guess we're even on rent since I took that 5.5 pounder off one of your spots last tourney.

We drove out to the island on our way back to Tally to look at the ramps and check out the boom status. I didn't launch boat, but it was us looking around. Yell at us next time, always like meeting other forum members.

Good deal. I also saw another members truck at the ramp on Saturday, it was a four door green Z-71 with a NFGFC sticker on the back. Who was that?
