Keaton 6/19-29/01

Post by Breambuster »

Sorry no pictures this time... but had a great weekend with the family.

We had a late start, didnt get on the water until 10.30 am but ended up with 4 trout by 12.30 pm, which was all we needed for a fish fry to go along with our barbeque at Goodman in Perry. We had quite a few misses from letting the girls setting the hooks and reeling them in. We then scalloped until 4 pm picking enough to make it worth the effort. Apparently, the areas where I saw scallop on Friday were full of boats and had already been picked over.

Saturday, Calvin and I sneaked out at 6.30 am, came back in at 10 am with a limit of trout and found the girls still in bed. Headed back out at close to noon to the area Hit-n-Miss suggested and the scallop were thick there, taking less than 3 hrs to fill the two 5 gallon bucket.

A couple of observations from this trip; the fish are still bitting good, so worth bringing your fishing rods along when you go scalloping. As for the scallop, someone has suggested that opening the season 2 weeks early was a mistake because the scallop are still small. I find this to be not the case. We found a mix from fairly small to large BUT all had meat that are much bigger than last year.

:o What a Breambuster report without pictures! :o Glad the tip paid off for you. You are the fishing guru at Keaton. Where and how you catch that limit? Shallow? Deep? As for the scallop size we wound up with a 1/2 gal of meat from our 8gal in shell. Going again next weekend. :-D
