What is Kevin's Reputation

I'm curious how Kevin's Sporting goods stacks up for anglers. What do you think about the service, product selection and price?

They are a site sponsor. That's a pretty good endorsement. They have easily the best selection in Tally.

Kevin's product selection and service are quite a few steps above wal-mart. Prices are comperable to wal-mart. I heartily endorse Kevin's.

Another good outfitter is South Georgia Outdooes in Cairo, GA.

I went in the other day and met the guy in charge of the fishing department. His name escapes me, but if you walk in there, you will meet him too if he is there that day. I told him what I was looking for and my price range. He found me several options, gave me his endorsement and then educated me on why he recommended those three items. We were talking a $100 sale and I got better service than when I have bought $35K vehicles. I picked one that was a little less than the other two and was not his top pick, but I liked the way it blanced with my reel (which he let me put one on from his stock). Their lure prices are on par with Wally world (ugh) and better in several cases. I give them an enthusiastic two thumbs up!

I really really want to get to South Georgia Outdoors, I hear a lot of very positive talk about them from people (and not just on here).

I've heard people bash their selection some but it always looked OK to me.

Better than other local options. They pack a lot in those 2 or 3 aisles. :)

Their gun department, however, has a bit of a reputation for snobbery unless you are one of the plantation fancy-boys. Let's just say that I get treated much different when I go in there in my shirt and tie from work than if I stop in on a Saturday in my shorts and t-shirt.

I used to think that too Bag, but have been treated much much better the last several trips to the gun area. I think they have improved customer service in the last year or so.

I wouldn't go into Kevin's for years after they way I was treated in the early 1990s. Now, it is my favorite place to buy tackle. The prices on bass tackle are as good, and in many cases, better than mail order. Len will definitely take care of you.

Honestly, I think it is like, 2 guys in the gun dept that gave that place a dumpy reputation.

I am glad to hear it has improved - I never thought of them as a fully stocked tackle shop, I'm glad to hear it is so strong!

Best place for fishing tackle in Tally hands down. Lin and company really understand good customer service. For novices and pros alike, they are able to accomodate all aspects of fishing gear and tackle. Plus, if you have any problems with warranty or product issues, they are very easy to deal with. I'm with Keyser on this one

Best selection in town.
They close too early though. I would go there a lot more if they didn't close before most folks get off work.

Fair prices, good selection and excellent customer service. Lynn and his crew know their stuff.

If that's not enough to support a local business, consider that Kevin's generously sponsors the club and many other non-profit groups, including Coastal Conservation Association.

They get my business hands down.

Really enjoy going into Kevin's. As has been said above Lynn goes above and beyond. I have bought a couple of rod and reel combos there and have been very happy with my results. He will send you in the right direction and help get you into what you need.

Don't even get me started on Wally World. :smt011
