Re: plainclothes
Has there ever been a case where people were robbed by someone posing as an undercover FWC or other officer on the water? But if you're that unsure, get a permit and pack. Or use your flare gun.
I personally had an incident in The Bahamas where we were anchored up for the night off Grand Cay and an unlit boat was motoring slowly towards us in the pitch black dark. Thinking quick, one of my buddies threw a towell over the downrigger, turned on the cockpit light so we could be seen, and pointed the shaft at them. Never saw or heard from them again as they motored back into the darkness. Didn't get much sleep that night either. BTW, we also had real weapons on board...per the Coast Guard's suggestion.

Re: plainclothes
Just curious...did the Coast Guard have any specific suggestions as to the type of weapons they would recommend??

Re: plainclothes
I had a buddy of mine nearly sink a go fast boat between Miami and Cuba. Apparently automatic weapons witout safeties are a re bad idea while doing 80+ in a boat.
Crazy DEA guys, emptied a clip into the floor after stuffing a wave. Or at least that's how he tells the story.

Re: plainclothes
For the record I support the Florida Marine Patrol. It would be chaos out there without them. But you need to be ready for anything when a strange boat approaches.
