OTower Sunday

Post by GeneO. »

Tom, Chalk, CSMarine and I left out of Carrabelle this morning about daybreak. We ran a little south of OTower in a Snapper Frenzy. Stopped at our first spot and as soon as CS's Pinfish hit the bottom he boated a nice Mangrove. Tom had sent a pinfish to the bottom shortly after CS and as soon as his hit the bottom he was pulling up another one.

Sound good so far? This is where it gets interesting. The anchor didn't hold the spot we were on and we had to re-anchor. Long Story short - Does anyone have a good anchor they would be interested in selling as Journeys End is now in need of one. Some how the 3/4" rope broke.

The rest of the day we were confined to drift fishing at an alarming rate of speed.

Tom put us on some good fish as we were able to catch a couple of keeper reds and about 20 shorts, we managed a Lane Snapper and CS turned a beautiful Red Snapper loose at the boat :smt102 Chalk boated a nice flounder in about 80 feet of water, on the same hole as the we were catching the reds.

It was rough but we survived and came home with some fish to eat. :smt028

Once again guys I had a great time and look forward to another trip. Each time I go out I learn something new.

Thanks,
Tight Lines and Screamin Drag

Props were balanced and she ran great. There's still a little slip around the Stuffing box in the rough water when getting on plane so I have to get that looked at. Once she gets up she goes had her running 22knots that's 25mph on the way in. :o

Once again, a great trip with a fine bunch of fellows from the BBF site. Capt GeneO and the Journey's End made 40 miles offshore in rough water like fishing off a dock. Thanks GenO for the invite. Thanks again to Tom for this site. It's brought a lot of friends together that may have never met otherwise.
I think they all moved away from me like they didn't know me at the cleaning station, when I started stuffing the grouper heads and backbones in a plastic bag. :o  (only the ones we caught)
I warned ya'll in past post. Not much of the fish gets to be crab bait at my house. :lick:

GeneO,

Glad you fellows were able to keep fishing through a little adversity. We had alittle trouble anchoring around the O tower Sunday morning. After the anchor didn't grab a couple of times and upon inspection we realized the anchor was bent just enough to prevent it from swiveling and getting a bite. No way to fix it on the boat but luckily we had a spare.

We mainly stayed off the tower a good ways, but seems like we got a couple of hundred yards from it once. We were there maybe around 8:30-9:30. Its starting to all run together after 2 days offshore. You really learn to respect those commercial fishermen. It's hard work!
