A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
I appreciate all the responses. I may be mistaken but I sort of get the feeling that a business may receive better response than a homeowner?? One other bit of information I failed to share is that I am in the COUNTY (aprox 15 miles East of Capital Circle off 27 and not the City. Leon County Sheriff would be the response rather than TPD. I don't know if that would change any of your comments or suggestions but feel free to alter, modify, add to, etc. Again, Thanks for all your input, it sure makes this forum a GREAT VALUE

Sir Reel, I'll shoot you if you'll shoot me.
Very nice offer there... probably would have several volunteer's especially considering that you would be willing to shoot first..
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
Once again, get a good video system to record events along with an alarm that can not just be disabled by cutting the phone line.
Since you live out so far, you are PROBABLY going to be at least 15 to 20 minutes before a response. (From the S.O., not the alarm co.)
Also think about a good safe (repeat GOOD SAFE). Then bolt it to the floor. The average hit and run burglar would not ba able to breach it in 15 minutes time. Plus, you need it anyway for fire protection of valuables there at home. (Guns, jewelery, fishin' photos....etc.)

I also live about 15 miles east off of 27. I have Georgia-Florida Alarm and pay about $25 per month. No problems. I also have dogs, a Beretta 9mm, 30-30, a .270, several shotguns, and a wife that can shoot. I've been thinking about....

I would be more worried about not making the little lady mad if she can shoot...

I will start by saying I used to intall resedential systems for ADT. I am a fan of the security systems. I am not a fan of monitoring. In Tallahassee the police respond if convenient. The siren will scare them off if they are going to leave at all. (Usuallly the sign in your yard will do this). If State Farm is requiring this, see if your installer can have your system dial your cell phone as well as them. That way you can call the police when you are notified by your system. Hope you have luck with this!
Stay away from statefarm, they have consistantly raised rates, and then try to weasel out of their responsibilitys ,I have been with farm bureau for over 25 years and have been treated like gold.Security systems like you said do little to protect you, but you should put up stickers saying you have a system,it will help deter thieves- then put a sack of dollar bills outside your front door and wait for the first thief to show up and then throw him up the stairs , if you lack stairs a shotgun would work just as well .
If you decide to go the security camera route be sure to spend the extra money and get GOOD QUALITY cameras.
We were having a problem in Clemson with mopeds being stolen from the parking lot of our fraternity house this past year. One guy decided to buy and put up cameras and actually caught the guys one night but the police department couldn't do anything with the video because it wasn't clear enough from the distance that it captured the thieves. After that we upgraded to a camera with zoom that was very clear but they never came back around.

Good folks.
I would stay away from the Big boys (National companies)
Just my opinion from experience.

I use the same company in Carrabelle. Great folks and some of the best pricing around.
Our home is monitored in Florida not in India!!

Speaking of India....I called Talquin Electric at midnight Saturday night....they answered at 12:30 am.
The Indian took my info and asked if I heard any noises before the power went out.
I told him the lightning bolt hit in my back yard and the resulting thunder knocked me out of bed and awake at the same time.
He said power would be resumed shortly.
It was.
At 5 am.
Glad it wasn't a burglar.
