where to fish

Post by murk09 »

Myself and two buddies are gonna try and go offshore thursday. we are leaving from cairo, ga early and would like to go offshore, but are not very familiar with the area. just want to know where to put the boat in and fish. been out of shell point before and went to rotary reef, but i feel like we could drive closer to cut down on all the boat riding. any tips would be great thanks

Put in at Mashes Sands and you will be about 7 miles from the Rotary  and lots of good fishin within 12 miles of the landing   just remember to stay in the channel markers, once you get over to the channel :smt004

What size boat are you bringing down and what is draft at full load?

Make sure to pay attention to tides

Just take hyw 98 through Panacea and take a left at the caution light, at the bridge "Mashes Sands Rd., the landing is about 3 miles down, on the right "you can see the end of the road from where you turn at". As nole said, it's best to plan on launching and returning when the tide is not low if the boat drafts 2 or 3 feet "it just makes things much easier"

There is also a free ramp at the end of Rock Landing Road... just rebuilt and it great shape.
Its basically the same area but a deeper channel and well marked.

Plus a restaurant/bar at the marina waiting on you when you get in.
