St Marks 8/11

Post by onefishtwofish »

Actually found a good amount of bait this am. FInger mullet were loaded quickly in the bait well and off we went. My best luck of the day was using my bait net. :smt010 Off we head to our spot. Freelining was the ticket with the HEAVY east wind. It took about 5 passes to get the anchor set where we wanted. 2 catfish and several gar later, my bro radios that the bite is ON for them. We motor to a similar looking area and we pick up one hit that takes a ton of line and spits the hook. We finally move over to their spot as they run out of bait. In the process, we toss out our anchor and get set. One red. Several gar. Our anchor comes lose so in the process of resetting, my nephew tosses out the line and I notice the line is not sinking. :smt012 I tell him he just lost the anchor. Oops, game over for us. Bro scores more mullet anrd repositions. Our boat - 1 red. Their boat- 9 reds. Not that he did not rub my nose in it over lunch. I tried to point out that the whole game plan was my idea, but they did not give me any credit for that. Brothers.

We had a kinda sucky day, but they had a good one. Oddly, all reds were between 19 and 21 inches. 3 made the trip home for sammiches.

It was a wee bit windy yesterday. We tried to stay in lee areas as much as possible. When we were fishing in flats boats and a 23+' offshore boat was right next to us, you know it was windy!

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.
