Solo Sunday - Tuckered out

Post by Williamsdad »

Luc wanted me to post, so here goes. Whole new ballgame with him in Pensacola.

Late Saturday night cancellation left me with 2 choices - stay home and wish I was fishing, or go it alone for my first time. I chose the latter, and it was quite a day. I'm still sore from wrestling with good fish.

Little to the east of the lighthouse, after catching my own bait, I found a few good fish. I landed a 22" red (in the first 10 minutes on a finger mullet), got it out from under the anchor line and all. Next came a 15" trout that I put back, and a 17" bluefish.

Then some big guys came by and started picking up my live baits. Sharks got 2 (of what I'm sure were reds), in those unbelievable surface explosions. I managed a 29" red (and successful release), and right after had a double hook-up, another big red and what turned out to be a remora. I'm sure it would have been hilarious to see me fighting the red, that made it under the boat, while holding the remora rod between my legs, before knowing what it was. I was really trying to horse the red in, and not lose him to another shark, trying to find the net, and as he made one last run, put too much pressure on the line and watched it break near the leader. In a duller moment, also picked up about a 4 ft. gar. Plenty of cats too.

These were strong fish. It was taking almost all my might to turn them to the boat. The initial runs were amazing, as were the aerial antics to avoid the sharks.

What sucks is not having anyone to take a photo. The 29 just doesn't look the same on the floor of the boat, the only way I could get a shot, but it was a blast anyway, take my word for it.

How's that Luc?

Yeah, because one thing is for sure . . .
As soon as you hook a fish, everybody else is an expert on how to land it.
No :smt100 Please!
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

Nothing wrong with that report.
They do make cameras with a timer and RAM mount.
