Wakulla Beach 9/18/10
First report, so here it goes. I was at Wakulla beach at dawn with Yardman32317 to fish the bay with the incoming tide via his kayak and my canoe. After netting some bait, we are at a creek mouth as the tide turns in and the bait are really lighting up around the bars. He moves into the creek mouth, I sit the outside of the mouth. Not much action on my part, bunch of short strikes, nothing impressive. Hooked a Lady or Mackeral or something that shakes my hook pretty quick. As I debate moving, I see a wall of water moving my way with what looks to be several large fish in it. As it gets close I put my golden orange topwater in front of the bunch of them. One turns to follow and I keep working it for 50 feet or so and BAM – Fish On! One of the best fights of the summer ensues for 5 minutes or so. As I get him close to the boat I realize it is a bull red, definatley over slot. I pull him boat side and grab the net, and as I reach - both him and my $8 lure break off and are gone! As I lament the loss, I here a series of “Whoop”s and “Yea”s from Yardman and see him getting towed around the bay by what turned out to be a good size Jack. Aside from the Lady Yardman also caught, the action died down as the day progressed. Did an 8 mile loop around the bay throwing the gambit; spoons, tops, clackers, pinfish, jigs, whites, golds, and silvers on bars, holes, grasses, creeks, and islands. No luck. The trend held with other anglers in that bay as we found out later. As the wind picked up we headed in around noon. Should have been at Shell Point with the class

Classes are good, but, the best way to learn is by doing.
You did it.

It got tough when that wind picked up over there. I agree with JT, the more you do it the better the results. It seems like your doing and throwing all the right things too. Sometimes on days like that just go to one proven bait like a spoon and give it enough time to catch fish instead of going with multiple baits. There will be a free seminar at Kevins on Oct 2nd and if you want to learn more we will be having another class on Nov 6th.
