Old Salts at St Marks LightHouse 04/30/04

Bad weather not withstanding, I had a great day on the water down at St. Marks Friday with "Old Men of the Sea" ALMAR and his old buddy Carl.
Our launch from the Lighthouse pool was delayed a bit by a little drizzle but once it passed we were able to get out on the water and start lifting up trout.

For us the fishing was a little slow through the morning with probably less than 15 trout boated and only one limit kept for the ride back to LA but the company was great and eventually the weather improved and it turned out to be a great day. Almar and Carl are great guys to spend a day on the water with and they are good fishermen too, as they caught most of the trout, and all of the ladyfish.

While I was over on the West Flats having my lures taken away by awesome fish? I got a call on the radio from Apalach to stop what I was doing and bring my camera over to take a picture. I thought, this better be good. And it was! Steve had hooked into a 40 inch cobia on a topwater plug (Zara Spook) in about 3.5 feet of water. It was Steve's first legal sized cobia and of course he was very excited.

Its a pity nobody told him, "Blue and Green, should never be seen".
Thats what happens when you don,t have "Dress Parade" for the Missus approval.

Don, does your buddy have the Suzuki 140 on his boat too?

Cranfield, with our combined ages rounding out at around 180+, I don't think fashion was much on anyone's mind. I think our fashion motto could have been "wear what works." Steve tried to outfit Earl in some "Frog Togs" but tough ole Earl wouldn't have any of it. He continued wearing that ripped poncho right through the worst of the monsoon the other day and didn't complain once. Tough old bird.

Steve and Joe's boat is a mirror copy of mine, purchased at the same place. They told the dealer they wanted one exactly like mine right down to the electronics.

Ken, I think Steve caught that cobia on 10# test line.

Hey Cran, you need to make a trip over here to see my daughter, she can get those eyes of your's straighten out in a short. My wife had a big laugh out of your comment, she told me, I told you not to wear clashing clothing.Ha Ha Ha

Don, I know you had a ball with that crew on your boat. I thoroughly enjoyed fishing with Pa and Carl.

Pa, did you teach Don how to call those trout up?

Hey John, it did not work, I even tried different dialects of Sudanese, Germorians, and Spanish. It did however bring in one spanish which we boated. Pa.

Good deal, Pa. I didn't do all that well talkin to them this weekend, either. And I called them everything in the book.

That cracks me up when Almar starts talking to the trout. He made a believer out of me though over at Econfini last year. Talked some into jumping on his homemade topwaters when they'd hit nothing else. Yep, they are a good crew to fish with. A lot of wisdom there.
